Smedes
York
Chairman of York Companies
A Raleigh native, Smedes York
has spent many years serving the
needs of Raleigh and its
citizens. He is a highly
respected businessman and has
been instrumental in helping the
Triangle area become one of the
most desired places to live in
the United States.
Smedes earned his Bachelor of
Science degree in Civil
Engineering from North Carolina
State University and a Master of
Business Administration degree
from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill. From
1964-1966, Smedes served as a
First Lieutenant in the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers,
receiving an Army Commendation
Medal for his service in South
Korea.
In the late 1970s and early
1980s, Smedes served the Raleigh
community in the political
arena. He was a Raleigh City
Councilman, District E, from
1977 to 1979. He then served two
terms as Mayor of the City of
Raleigh, from 1979 through 1983.
Smedes has spent his
professional career in real
estate and construction and is
President of York Properties,
Inc. and Board Chairman of
related companies York Simpson
Underwood and McDonald-York. In
addition to his business, he has
served in a leadership capacity
for many organizations. Some of
these positions include past
chairman of the North Carolina
Citizens for Business and
Industry and the N.C. State
University Board of Trustees.
Current positions include Board
of Directors of the Research
Triangle Foundation, the YMCA of
the Triangle, and North Carolina
Amateur Sports. He continues to
serve as a Trustee of the Urban
Land Institute.
Among Smedes' many honors are
the "Outstanding Young Men of
North Carolina" award, the
Chamber of Commerce A. E. Finley
Award, the Boys Clubs of America
Silver Medallion, Tar Heel of
the Week, Realtor of the Year,
the Boy Scouts Distinguished
Citizen Award, and the North
Carolina Public Service Award.

Worth, III

President and Chief
Investment Officer of York
Properties
Hal is a graduate of the
University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Mathematics.
He has over 30 years of real
estate experience with York
Properties, and is a principal
in the firm. His association
with the Raleigh Board of
Realtors includes service as the
Charter President of the
Commercial Listing Service as
well as President of the
Property Management Division. He
has been President of the
Raleigh Board and was named
Realtor of the Year. He holds
the designations of Certified
Property Manager from the
Institute of Real Estate
Management and Certified
Shopping Center Manager from the
International Council of
Shopping Centers. He has also
served as the president of the
Piedmont Chapter of the
Institute of Real Estate
Management.

George
S. York, Jr., CCIM
Executive Vice President
George has 12 years experience in retail property management and leasing, and is a lifelong resident of Raleigh. He holds his North Carolina Real Estate License and his Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation. George is a full member of the Urban Land Institute and serves on a small scale development council within the ULI. George is also involved with the International Council of Shopping Centers and is a member of the Board for the Triangle Commercial Association of Realtors. He received his BA from Wake Forest University in 1993 and his MBA from Kenan-Flagler School of Business at UNC-Chapel Hill in 2006. George is a member of the Board of Directors at Southlight, Inc. where he serves as the chairman of the advisory board, and he is a member of the Board of Directors for the Raleigh Little Theatre. George is married (Parker) and has two children (Smedes, 3, and Bowen, 3 months).

Joesph D. Kalkhurst,

Joe Kalkhurst oversees
the operation of the
Commercial Division and
serves on the executive
committee of York
Properties, Inc. He has
over 25 years of real
estate brokerage and
management experience
and is a past President
of the Raleigh board of
Realtors. He has also
received their Realtor
of the Year honor. He
specialized in tax
deferred exchange work
involving office and
industrial income
properties, as well as
“build to suit” and
sale/lease back
transactions. Joe is an
active industrial member
of the Society of
industrial and Office
Realtors (SIOR) and a
past president of the
Carolinas Chapter.
Membership in the
Society signifies the
highest level of the
professional
performance.

Settle Dockery
Projects Director, York
Ventures
Settle is a 1970 graduate of
North Carolina State University
School of Design with a degree
in Landscape Architecture. He
has extensive experience in
design, land use planning, real
estate development and the
approval process. He heads York
Ventures which initiates new
projects and provides
development services to York
Properties' clients.

Frank
Hobgood
CPA Controller
Frank received his B.S. in
Business from the University of
North Carolina.
He has been with York Properties
since 1982. He is a member of
American Institute of CPA's and
the North Carolina Association
of CPA's. As the controller of
York Properties, he oversees the
accounting staff for York
Properties, as well as The J.W.
York Company, LLC.

Lamont Farmer
President of the Property
Management Division
Lamont and her late husband,
Lyston Farmer, founded Lyston
Farmer & Associates in 1989, and
after his death, several real
estate companies approached her
about a merger. Only one company
shared Lamont's high standards
of customer service – York
Properties, Inc. Lyston Farmer &
Associates merged with York in
December 1999, and Lamont became
President of York's Property
Management Division. With 18
years of real estate experience,
including ownership in both
commercial and multi-family
properties, Lamont brings a
wealth of knowledge and
expertise to York's business of
serving property owners and
tenants with the highest level
of service and professionalism
available in the Triangle.
Lamont holds a North Carolina
real estate license and is
working toward her CCIM
designation through the
Commercial Investment Real
Estate Institute. She is a
member of Commercial Real Estate
Women (CREW) and the Triangle
Commercial Association of
Realtors (TCAR).
