History of York Properties

York Properties, Inc., is approaching the centennial of its beginning. In 1904, the company York and Cobb of Greenville, N.C., began making its mark on North Carolina’s landscape. In 1908, York and Cobb built the first five buildings at East Carolina Teachers College (now East Carolina University) in Greenville.

In 1910, C.V. York purchased the interest of the Cobb brothers and moved the business to Raleigh. York Construction Company built many of the city’s landmarks, including Memorial Auditorium; Capital Apartments, the first multi-story house in the city; the Sir Walter Hotel; North Carolina State University classroom buildings; and the landmark venture of Cameron Village, the Southeast’s first shopping center and planned community. York has managed Triangle area real estate continuously ever since, a credential unmatched by any other company in the area.
